Organic SEO Services: Top 5 Internet Marketing Myths (Busted)

Now that the majority of businesses understand the basics of inbound marketing and have moved forward with attaining SEO services to boost their online traffic, the Internet marketing myths are flying pretty hot and heavy. Here are a list of some of the top five (busted) myths surrounding the ins and outs of online marketing.

1. “All I need is a great website.”

Companies are pumping tons of capital into site redesigns from high-level web development professionals. While they may very well get a gorgeous site out of it, that doesn’t always correlate to higher sales or more traffic. Unless SEO services are included as part of your web development process, that beautiful site of yours is just one more needle in a haystack. A website is only one part of an effective online marketing strategy.

2. “The right audience will find me.”

Much like Myth #1, unless you are incorporating effective SEO practices into your online presence, the right audience is going to have a lot of trouble finding you. There are millions of sites out there, and competition to be seen by search engines and visitors alike is pretty ferocious. The worst mistake you can make in online marketing is to build a site and then expect it to sell itself. It just doesn’t work that way.

3. “More traffic means more sales.”

Although more traffic is a good thing, there is not necessarily a direct link to increased sales. Every hit on your site is a potential lead, but until that lead becomes a conversion, the game is up for grabs. In order to direct your traffic toward a higher conversion rate, you’ll need to practice more active marketing tactics: customized landing pages, calls to action, and a clearly identified target audience.

4. “My service isn’t technical, so I don’t need an online presence.”

This is such a pervasive myth and it couldn’t be further from the truth. Even if you’re selling something distinctly non-technical, it’s extremely important to maintain an online presence. Why? Because the Internet is how the majority of consumers find businesses and decide where they’d like to spend their money. Without an active online presence, they won’t know you exist.

5. “I expect almost immediate results!”

Nope. Just like every single other investment you make for your business, the time and energy you put in now will not present immediate payback. Although the virtual world does move more quickly than the physical world, it still takes time to build up an effective online reputation and a successful Internet marketing campaign through the careful implementation of SEO services.

Internet marketing may seem like a completely new concept, but it’s really just utilizing new methods for the same old result businesses have always wanted: more customers. The fact that you’ve got a website isn’t enough to build your company (just as opening a store with zero advertising wouldn’t bring in a whole lot of foot traffic). So go ahead and invest in that great web redesign, as long as you understand that expecting that site to sell itself is a myth in and of itself. Build a web presence, become active online, and incorporate the right SEO services. Once you do, you’ll be looking at a successful Internet marketing campaign in no time.
