Marketing Snafu of Year Candidate: Hyundai apologizes for commercial showing attempted suicide

We try to take it easy on fellow marketers most of the time, but every so often we see something so egratious and unbelievable that it makes us shake our heads and cringe simultaneously. Today’s episode features Hyundai UK and their ad agency who for some reason thought that a spot about attempted suicide would be…I don’t know….effective? Now their PR team is in full crisis communication mode. 

South Korean car maker Hyundai apologized Thursday for a U.K. advertisement that depicts a man trying to commit suicide in his garage but failing because of his zero-emission car. The ad, apparently designed for circulation on the Internet, was created by advertising agency Inno ……
