“Hashtagging:” How To Make the Most of It for Your Business
The #hashtag- what does it mean, how do we use it, and what does it mean for my social media marketing? While “hashtag” has made its way in to normal conversations and even was declared the 2012 Word of the Year by the American Dialect Society, there still remains some mystery for businesses in how they can use them for marketing.
As an aside, last summer I attended a social media seminar as a part of a large conference for dental professionals. I remember someone interjecting, “what is a hashtag?” completely confused by the entire presentation. Initially I thought, what an easy question to answer. But in pondering the question further, I realized that the hashtag is a pretty complex idea to explain to someone who has never heard of it before.
